At San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park this weekend, Outside Lands festival-goers flooded the grounds to see headlining acts like SZA, Kali Uchis and Green Day. The main goal for most people was to see a bunch of bands, but it’s also fun to just wander around the park seeing a bunch of… bananas.
Style is a huge part of any music festival these days, and although most older patrons simply throw on their most durable and comfy pair of sneakers, for many younger attendees choosing an outfit is just as taxing than choosing between SZA and Phoebe Bridgers.
Although many that attended Outside Lands 2021, which happened during Halloween weekend, likely feel a bit nostalgic for the relative lack of costumes, the people-watching was still as good as it gets in San Francisco, and made traversing the distance between stages less of a chore and more of an activity in its own right.
In terms of trends, this year there were far fewer cows roaming the grounds, with paisley becoming a noticeable trend. Wide-flaired bell-bottoms also were popular, and on the opposite side of the spectrum, many festival-goers were not afraid to dress in the bare-minimum of clothing (which likely turned quite uncomfortable as the temperature dropped dramatically after dark).
