The PGA Tour returns to Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio for its annual playing of the Memorial Tournament. The 2023 edition will be the tournament’s 47th edition and is one of the five PGA Tour tournaments given invitational status. Jack Nicklaus, who grew up in the north Columbus area, has hosted the tournament since its inception.
Seven-time PGA Tour winner Billy Horschel is the defending champion after earning a four-shot victory, the largest of his career as his The Memorial Tournament Predictions are high, over Aaron Wise last season. Horschel’s four-day tally of 275 was the same winning total as Patrick Cantlay the previous year.
The purse for the tournament grew from $12 million in 2022 to $20 million this season and plays as one of the Tour’s 17 designated events. The winner receives $3.6 million of the total and gets greeted by the Golden Bear as he walks off the 18th green on Sunday.
Let’s get into the tournament details, looking at the Memorial Tournament odds and give out the Memorial Tournament predictions.
Muirfield Village Golf Club
There are two courses on the property, each designed by Nicklaus. The signature Muirfield Village Golf Club plays host to the Memorial Tournament and has since the property opened in 1974. The layout stretches over 7,500 yards and is a traditional par-72.
Nicklaus has full golf odds control of the property and has made numerous changes to the course over the years. Over the last 15 years, he has added length to a handful of the holes, increasing the number of bunkers on the course, and rerouting a stream on the 18th hole.
There are just 120 players teeing it up in this invitational event, and the field is packed with all the stars of the PGA Tour. Horschel will be back to defend his title along with the top-8 players in the world.
Scottie Scheffler Memorial Tournament picks are high as he returns to Muirfield Village for the third time in his career after not teeing it up in 2022. Scheffler posted a T22 in 2020 and a solo third in 2019. The PLAYERS champion has put together three-straight finishes inside the top 5.
Jon Rahm, the golf standings no. 2 ranked player in the world and 2020 Memorial winner, is back to see if he can find the magic again. Rahm, who had a commanding lead a season later before having to withdraw after his third round due to a positive COVID test, added a T10 here last year.
Patrick Cantlay is another name to watch this week. The two-time winner (2019, 2021) has made nine-straight cuts, with six of those finishes coming in the top-10.
The Memorial Tournament Predictions
The best ball-strikers in the world have won here as golf predictions are high, and it is an important component to winning at Jack’s Place. Over the last decade, the winning score to par has hovered near 15-under par. Another note is the past six winners of the tournament weren’t near the top of the pre-tournament odds board.
There are some fine players further down the list that deserve our attention, but we see one of the golf betting favorites walking down the 18th on Sunday afternoon in the lead.
The golf odds are out, and below are our favorite Memorial Tournament predictions:
Scottie Scheffler | Top 5 Finish (+150)
Scheffler has been a machine this season and is nearly a lock to appear on the front page of the leaderboard come Sunday. We will take the plus-money as long as we can.
Viktor Hovland | Top 5 Finish (+400)
Hovland has struggled around the greens in the past, and this is a course where many miss the dance floor with their approaches. The 25-year-old is still a work in progress, but his top finish at the PGA Championship shows us he isn’t too far off.
Justin Thomas | Winner (+2500)
It is about time for J.T. to get hot, and what better place to have it happen than in front of Jack. Thomas has cracked the top 10 just twice this season, his last a solo 4th at the WM Phoenix Open. His iron ability could get him back in the winner’s circle this weekend.
