The LIV golf schedule winds down with the 48-player field returning to Rich Harvest Farms outside of Chicago for the LIV Golf Invitational Chicago. Looking at the golf odds, we should be in for an exciting event!
The tournament is the 12th of 14 events on the 2023 LIV golf schedule, which concludes with tournaments in Saudi Arabia and Miami. Tournament play begins on Friday, September 22nd, and concludes on Sunday, September 24th.
Australia’s Cameron Smith returns as the defending champion and looks to pick up his third individual title of the year. Smith has won two of the last three LIV events and sits atop the LIV golf standings.
The 30-year-old shot a 13-under (203 total) to knock off Dustin Johnson and Peter Uihlein by three shots to win his first LIV tournament in its inaugural 2022 season.
On the team side of the golf standings, 4Aces GC (172 points) comes into the tournament with a nine-point lead over Torque GC (163 points). The 4Aces team is led by Patrick Reed and captain Dustin Johnson, who sit no. 3 and no. 8 on the individual points list.
Let’s preview the tournament and get into some LIV Golf Invitational Chicago predictions.
Rich Harvest Farms is a private golf course that was constructed in 1989 and sits approximately 50 miles west of downtown Chicago in Sugar Grove, Illinois. The course was designed by the estate’s owner and president, Jerome “Jerry” Rich, and has hosted numerous notable amateur and collegiate events.
Situated on 1,800 acres of land, the course plays as a par-72 that stretches over 7,700 yards. Rich constructed the first six holes of the course before hiring architect Greg Martin to design a full 18-hole layout.
Chicago feels like a faraway land when stepping foot on the property. The challenging course features hills and numerous water features with demanding tee shots on every hole. The course is demanding even for the world’s best, with blind tee shots on over half of the holes.
The 12-team tournament will comprise the 48 players that currently call the LIV circuit home. Brooks Koepka headlines the field as the captain of Smash GC and the only player in the tournament to be teeing it up later this month at the Ryder Cup.
Koepka picked up his fifth major title earlier this year at the PGA Championship, becoming the first LIV player to win a major.
Other notable players in the field include past major winners Phil Mickelson, Bryson DeChambeau, Dustin Johnson, Sergio Garcia, and Patrick Reed.
Smith, Talor Gooch, and Reed round out the top three players in the individual standings. Gooch leads the field with three victories this season, while Smith is the only other golfer on the LIV circuit with multiple wins in 2023.
Koepka, DeChambeau, Johnson, Harold Varner III, Charles Howell III, and Danny Lee have each picked up a win this season.
We have some past statistics to lean on as LIV returns to Rich Harvest Farms for the second year in a row, giving us a bit more ammo when making our LIV Golf Invitational Chicago predictions.
There is one individual and one team we are targeting this week, and their 2022 play at this tournament and current form is a big reason why.
Gooch has put together a fantastic year so far and comes in with a chance to overtake Smith atop the individual standings. Adding to his three wins, Gooch has finished outside the top 20 just two times this season and comes in with an 11th and 15th place finish in recent events.
He was a member of the winning team last year and looks locked in, making him one of our LIV Golf Invitational Chicago predictions to win the individual portion of the tournament.
The South African team sits third on the points list and has carded three straight third-place finishes. The team of Louis Oosthuizen, Dean Burmester, Branden Grace, and Charl Schwartzel is equipped with the collective talent to return to the winner’s circle for the second time this year.
