With two more wins, South Carolina will not only claim back-to-back women’s basketball national championships, but the Gamecocks will also wrap up a perfect 38-0 season. First up, the reigning champs must see off Caitlin Clark and Iowa in the second Women’s Final Four semifinal tonight in Dallas (9:00 pm ET, ESPN).
The Gamecocks (36-0), who have been ranked #1 all season and are the top overall seed in the NCAA Tournament, won all four of their Greenville Regional 1 games by double digits, including their 86-75 win over Maryland in the Elite Eight.
While the Gamecocks are making their sixth Final Four appearance under coach Dawn Staley, Iowa is in the Final Four for the first time since 1993. To get here, the high-scoring Hawkeyes, the #2 seed in Seattle Regional 4, lit up Louisville for 97 points in a 14-point win in the regional final.

While the Hawkeyes have arguably the best player in women’s college basketball in Clark, it’s no surprise that the Gamecocks are heavily favored to advance to Sunday’s championship game.
Of South Carolina’s 36 wins this season, 31 have come by double digits. And only three teams have managed to reach the 70-point mark against the Gamecocks this season: Stanford in a five-point overtime loss in November, UConn in a four-point loss in February, and Maryland in the Elite Eight.
So, Clark and the Hawkeyes are certainly facing unfavorable odds here. Iowa has scored at least 70 points in all but two games and 80 or more points in 28 of 36 games this season, and they will need to lean on that scoring ability to challenge South Carolina.
Can they? It’s not an easy feat, but it is worth noting that the three teams who have scored 70+ on the Gamecocks this season all played them closer than most teams have.
Prediction for Iowa vs South Carolina: South Carolina to win
Picks for Iowa vs South Carolina: Iowa/South Carolina over 150.5 (Best Value: FanDuel) & Iowa team total over 69.5 (Best Value: BetRivers)
I think the Hawkeyes will manage to hit the 70-point mark tonight, and I think they will give South Carolina a good game.
Ultimately though, the Gamecocks are on the verge of back-to-back championships for a reason. You can get close to them, but actually beating them is another task entirely.
