Friday night’s action starts with a 6f maiden for two-year-olds and it’s hard to get away from proven form as Ocean Baroque ran a blinder at the track recently on slow ground only giving best in the final furlong. The drier ground should not be a problem now for this son of Caravaggio and he can play a part with Declan McDonagh booked to ride. However, the market will be a good guide in this and support for debutant, Nemonte would be significant. Joseph O’Brien’s runner was an early foal and is from the family of Rock of Gibraltar.
Another maiden, but this time it’s for three-year-olds and upwards who have yet to win a race. There are quite a few three-year-olds making their debuts but one I like had a decent run on her only start as a two-year-old last season. Danvers Gold – a daughter of the mighty Galileo is out of the speedy filly, Mrs Danvers, who went unbeaten as a two-year-old. Danvers Gold was third on debut last June to dual winner Never Ending Story who holds an Irish 1,000 Guineas entry on Sunday. Trained by Jessica Harrington, you would expect this filly to be ready on her three-year-old reappearance.
Joseph O’Brien’s Vernet was strongly fancied far a Listed race at Killarney and was only beaten a head that day, even though she is now one of the top weights. Snowcapped is a dual winner already this season and looks the obvious danger, but got an 11lb hike for her win at this venue last time over 7f having previously shed her maiden tag over a mile at Gowran Park.
The first of the Aidan O’Brien trained and Ryan Moore hotpots we’re likely to see this weekend. Subzero finished a good second at Leopardstown on debut and with that run under his belt this son of Galileo should get the job done now.
A big-runner 7f handicap where it’s notable that this daughter of War Front has been kept in training by Moyglare Stud. Touching Clouds won her maiden on fast ground at Gowran Park in a race that has worked out very well and quicker ground will not be a problem especially coming from Dermot Weld’s yard. She will be ready to go on her handicap debut off a mark of 76.
The Michael O’Callaghan-trained topweight is a son of Footstepsinthesand and boasts some really top-notch form in Australia where he was running in some very valuable handicaps. He also ran well in Group and Listed races in Dubai. Despite carrying top weight now, I Am Superman has tumbled a little in the ratings from his peak form and could just be ‘chucked in’ on the best of it.
Heavenly Power was a beaten favourite at Navan over 5f on soft ground on seasonal but reverts to 6f now. This contest looks a really good fit for this son of Dark Angel who is a course and distance winner.
Jockey Billy Lee knows this daughter of Mastercraftsman well as he won a nice handicap on her at Leopardstown last June. Helpmeout is smart and despite it being her first run of the season, I’m hoping she will be fit enough for this nice 1m handicap.
