2.05 Goodwood: Yacowlef

Hopefully Tom Marquand will be as good on this useful three-year-old as Ryan Moore was at Newmarket, with Moore coolness personified in holding him up well off the pace before bringing him with a fantastically-timed challenge to win comfortably.

Yacowlef had shown an impressive turn of foot when finishing runner-up on his reappearance and I believe he could develop into a very useful handicapper at least.

He won over course and distance last season, so Goodwood holds no perils for him and, the Cole team are in excellent form. It’s a big day for them on Saturday!

2.25 Haydock: James McHenry

It is very difficult for the handicapper to get a grip on a horse like Covey who has won at short odds on his past two starts. He may well be very good, but being trained by the Gosdens and ridden by Frankie Dettori, he is unlikely to be value and certainly makes the market.

Even though James McHenry has gone up 7lb for a narrow course and distance win last time out, which seems a lot, but the second got first run on him and Ed Bethell’s gelding had to move quickly to come out on top.

The Bethell yard is still in cracking form and another good run, at least, seems assured.

2.40 York: Korker

Has run some of his best races at York, which is perhaps a little surprising given his tendency to be awkward leaving the stalls, and come-from-behind running style.

He certainly signalled he was back in form last time out when finishing well to grab second behind Regional at the Dante Festival.

He has been raised 3lb for that effort, but that has been negated entirely by Pierre-Louis Jamin, who has won on him before.

Korker ran his best race last season off this mark and if he gets a decent start here, he should confirm form with several who finished behind him last time and go very close indeed.

3.30 Haydock: Dramatised

Dramatised ran really well to finish runner-up in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint last year and looks set to have a very successful campaign in Group class sprints this season, provided she has trained on.

I was most impressed with her when she bolted up in the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot, and she doesn’t carry any penalty for that.

She represents a stable that could hardly be in better form, and the booking of William Buick looks a very positive move.

3.40 Curragh: Royal Scotsman

There are few more deserving high-class three-year-olds than Royal Scotsman who keeps turning up at the highest level and running consistently well.

He finished very strongly in the QIPCO 2000 Guineas at Newmarket after finding trouble in running, and may well have been an unlucky loser.

He certainly has the best form in this race and unless one of his rivals produce massive improvement, he should claim Classic glory here.
