Motorcyclists are at a heavy disadvantage when they are involved in an impact with another vehicle even in spite of safety precautions like Department of Transportation-approved helmets and safe riding techniques. Motorcycle riders are the most vulnerable drivers on our roadways, and their deaths almost always involve another vehicle.
One of the most common types of crashes occurs when another vehicle suddenly veers into oncoming traffic and collides head-first with a motorcyclist they did not see coming. The results are, at best, catastrophic and frequently deadly. The rider can endure injuries ranging from serious burns, road rash, and compound fractures to traumatic brain injuries and paralysis.

In addition, the NHTSA stated that, between 2004 and 2013, the number of fatal motorcycle incidents increased by 16%.
