To better prepare students for their professional careers, Florida A&M faculty along with JC Penney hosted a JC Penney Suit-Up event on Sunday.
Providing students with a comfortable and friendly shopping experience, JC Penney closed its doors to the public early in order to host this private event exclusively for FAMU students. It takes place once each fall and spring semester.
Ensuring each student receives the opportunity to participate, FAMU offers a shuttle, give away gift cards up to $400, and every student receives an additional coupon for an extra discount on top of the clothing sale.
Provost Alyson Watson said, “We believe in our students and want them to look their best at all times. Partnering with this community and JC Penney is a unique opportunity to present FAMU to the business world.”
Offering exceptional quality clothing at little to no cost for students, JC Penney is at the forefront in providing FAMU students with some of the necessities to be successful.
With clothes ranging from full two-piece suits to business casual attire, and sizes ranging from petite extra small to plus, the event is tailored to students of all sizes.
This event has impacted countless FAMU students over the years. For some students, this may have been their first time buying a suit. Thus, finding the perfect fit may have been difficult. Nonetheless, JC Penney’s staff was there to provide a helping hand ensuring that each student was satisfied with their purchase.
“My staff looks forward to hosting this semesterly event for FAMU,” said Toni Norsworthy, JC Penney’s store manager. “Being able to provide students with a suit at a discounted price is an amazing opportunity, and we are glad to be a part of hosting this event.”
With FAMU hosting a semesterly career fair event, it is encouraging every student to have a professional suit and be prepared for business events that require business professional attire. Thus, this event is beneficial to students of all majors and classification.
“I would advise other students to come to this event. The clothes are a great quality and will last throughout my pharmacy program,” said Victoria Edwards, a first year pre- pharmacy student from Dallas. “Business professional clothes can be expensive, so this sale saved me a lot of money.”
As a semesterly event, be sure to check your FAMU email in the start of the spring semester for another opportunity to participate in the JC Penney’s Suit-Up event.
