Just when we thought the NCAA men’s tournament couldn’t get any crazier, the ultimate upset took place Friday night with 16-seed Fairleigh Dickinson’s win over 1-seed Purude.

A 16-seed beat a 1-seed! For just the second time in NCAA tournament history.

But this wasn’t your typical 16-vs-1 matchup. Fairleigh Dickinson didn’t even qualify for the tournament by typical standards. They Knights made it as the Northeast Conference runners-up because conference champion Merrimack was ineligible. They were 23.5-point underdogs. Their moneyline odds were +2000!

A mere cover was supposed to be a challenge. Then, they knocked off one of the national title favorites outright for the biggest upset since seeding began in 1977-78.

That is just incredible.

We might have a Cinderella in the making.
