When it comes to preparing for a movie, several actors dedicate themselves to their roles without any restraints. But when it comes to fully committing oneself to a role without absolutely any regard for anything else, very few actors take the cake like Christian Bale. In a YouTube clip, as Joe Rogan discusses one of his movie roles and the extent to which he committed himself to that role, the bodybuilding and fitness world loses its mind over such incredible dedication for one movie role.
Christian Bale is notoriously famous for juggling between varying weights in several of his films. But this one film from 2004 takes the icing on the cake, as Bale, who is worth $120 million, nearly risked his life to lose 63 lbs for this role.

Christian Bale starred in the 2004 psychological thriller, ‘The Machinist’ directed by Brad Anderson. Bale plays Trevor, an insomniac lathe operator who loses his sleep for months and experiences weird occurrences. Almost unhealthily thin, Christian Bale underwent an unbelievable and rigorous transformation to look the part.
Bale lost 63 lbs and dropped to 110 lbs from his usual 173 lbs. Shockingly enough, he wanted to drop down to 100 lbs but the producers of the film won’t let him for fear of his well-being. In the clip, Joe Rogan said, “He got to death’s door, man!… He looked so bad. He looked even worse than McConaughey did in Dallas Buyers Club”. Matthew McConaughey too lost 50 lbs for his role in Dallas Buyers Club, for which he ultimately won an Oscar.
But what’s astounding about Bale’s physical transformation is that not only did he get back in shape for his next film, he actually bulked up. Soon after The Machinist, Christian Bale starred in Christopher Nolan’s Batman Begins in 2005. He looked physically strong for that film. The fitness world was in awe of his transformation, first to losing weight in the Machinist and then putting it back on.
Here’s how some of the fans reacted:
“Dude put himself through literal hell for our entertainment. He is Batman”, wrote a fan with a small praiseworthy note at the end showing his fandom for Batman. Bale literally pulled a miracle within a year’s time.
“Bro looked like he cycled between meth and roids. One of the best actors to ever live”, wrote another fan giving a compliment to Bale in a rather backhanded manner. However, Bale’s commitment to a role is actually what’s blowing his mind.

“Christian bale is an absolutely insane actor and he perfects every role he’s given”, wrote a die-hard fan who simply finds Christian Bale perfect.
“For the machinist role, he ate only an apple and a can of tuna each day, along with black coffee and water, and exercised for several hours a day”, a fan wrote sharing a trivia about Bale’s preparation. His diet was of the bare minimum to remain alive.
“Weeks. Six weeks later. And he got too big for the suit. Week six was him losing weight again just to fit the suit”, wrote a fan who pointed out that not just was his weight loss impressive, but also equally impressive was his weight-gain journey for Batman Begins.

Christian Bale got into an incredible shape for Batman Begins in no time, but that was just the beginning of his see-saw ride with physical transformation. He again lost weight for The Fighter, which earned him an Oscar and gained incredible weight for Vice. As recently as 2022, he lost weight again for playing Gorr the God Butcher in Thor: Love and Thunder. Bale doesn’t seem to hesitate one bit before committing himself to any role.
