Outside Stefanos Tsitsipas who won here in 2019, this tournament is not fond of crowning big names as champions. But with the kind of setup and player list this year, it might change.
Casper Ruud will be looking to deliver after a turbulent start to the year. Ruud has been woefully out of form in the first quarter of the season. But he has always played his best tennis on the red clay, and the ATP 250s are his cup of tea. Ruud, the top seed, gets our backing as the pre-tournament winner.
Two Spaniards of genuine interest include Roberto Bautista Agut and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. Historically, the Spaniards have done well at this tournament and will be looking to back up the trend.
In the case of Bautista Agut, he will be looking to get his first title of the season after falling short in Adelaide in January. While Davidovich Fokina who broke the world’s top 30 is still waiting for the first ATP title of his career. Both these two players look solid bets in the outrights.
